Greenbrier River Trail
We plan to run on the Greenbrier River Trail
The Greenbrier River Trail is a 79 mile (120 kilometer) long rail-to-trail conversion in Eastern West Virginia. The former C&O railroad right of way winds its way through the spectacular scenery of the Greenbrier River Valley in Pocahontas and Greenbrier Counties. Directly adjacent to the beautiful Greenbrier River, the packed gravel trail passes through the Monongahela National Forest, Cass, Watoga, and Droop Mountain State Parks and Greenbrier and Seneca State Forests and is surrounded by the Allegheny Mountains. The state-maintained trail takes bicyclists and hikers through quaint small towns and traverses 35 bridges and 2 tunnels.
The trail is level throughout and the surface is generally hard packed, but varies from rough to fine gravel. Bicycles with large tires are recommended. Cross-country skiers will require at least six inches of snow to avoid damage from protruding gravel.
Keep track of your distance and if you can have a friend take some pictures of your run. After the event send in your miles, times of your run, your experiences, and any great pictures of you and your dog(s) participating in Dogs Across America!!!
We look forward to hearing about all the great experiances.
